The Pricey Looking Priceless!

The newly wed Mrs Reid aka Katie price aka Jordan aka the Pricey goes by many names and normally some obscenities alongside those ones! I was neither team Kate or team Peter, I don't take a preference between the two but sometimes Kate just makes the wrong decisions and because of it her reputation has took a dip! But for once she has made a perfect decision! To be shot for the lifestyle magazine 'Wonderland.'

When you hear Katie Price will be on a magazine cover or has done a new shot you immediately think 'oh a swimsuit or lingerie in tasteless poses and plastered in make up' but not this time! Katie is stripped back to basics and looking very sexy! Oiled up wearing a vest, jeans and some very rugged converse the model, yes I said model looks better than ever! This is the kind of look every guy dreams for, something a little dirty and rough round the edges.

The Pricey looks a million dollars, even MasterCard couldn't afford this!

Fashioning the Future?

As we all know we are back in one of our favourite times of the season, where New York, London, Milan and Paris become the hosts to fashion week where the worlds best designers showcase their latest collection for the coming season! Then usually the high street studies the images and shows and immediately picks out it's hottest trends and creates copycat versions at a fraction of the price! But is all this about to change?

Tom Ford ( yes i know another blog about him) is a fashion genius, and has accomplished a lot on his time, but has he just took a step into the future, pushing the industry more more! As usual he plans a show, but this time he invites no one!

Imagine being a fashion editor, sitting at your desk and then the phone rings, finally here's your invitation, be at the store by 6.30 to see the show! If you were 1 of the lucky 100 you wouldn't have missed this for the world, especially as Beyonce was one of the confirmed models! As you can tell this show was top secret and images have not and WILL not be released until the collection goes on sale next year. Phones were to be left outside by all guests and no press was invited, just one in house photographer shot the show. However head shots of all the models have been released, and not the conventional models we are used to!

Tom Ford's collection can not be recreated this year, and isn't that the way fashion should be? This is one event many seriously missed out on, and I am sure the industry greatly anticipates the pictures of Beyonce on the runway!

Ga Ga's Got The Meat Sweats!

We all know fashion is sometimes taken to the extreme, and I have seen people dressed in meat before, Americas next top model have done it and who remembers GMTV's streaky bacon? But has the Lady Gaga taken it just that ration to far?

I read she had posed on the cover of japans Vogue this month wearing a cow but it wasn't until i saw the pictures that i was really shocked! She had some steaks on string covering her assets, a meat bikini perhaps. Take it with a pinch of salt and you can excuse the cover of vogue, who would expect any less from someone as fashion forward as her?

However that's not where she stopped, she paraded a Similar outfit at the VMA's and continued on stage to collect her award! No doubt she was slowly cooking under the intensity of those lights! This time she amazed in a elaborate hat, dress and even shoes all made from cuts of meat!

For once she was showing just a little to much flesh for me!

Zara meets Ecommerce

As many of you will know the Spanish super power of Zara have finally unveiled their transactional website! The 21st century has been embraced by retailer, although far to late. But has all been rectified in their new outlet?

The new website is offering up all elements Zara has to offer, Womenswear, Menswear, TRF, Children's and baby wear. All under one easy and sophisticated roof. A Zara shoppers dream? Possibly.

The website is incredibly easy to navigate, and most definitely the stylish high street retailer website i've seen, and i have seen many! The websites appearance mirrors exactly what we would see in store, the monochrome colour palette, with the stylised black and white photos and no fuss. Its clean and concise.

Delve further into the website and we can shop the clothes by category, and further filter the search by characteristics, colour, size and price ... however nothing new or exciting. Find some garments you are interested in and we can see several images, front, back and even design details and features. Accompanied by drop down menus of composition and care, delivery and returns. All the information is hidden, like i said no fuss, if you want to read it you can, otherwise its out of sight and not polluting our webpage. All the garments are photographed on a model which is very refreshing! Although some retailers already do this they are often inconsistent, on models and off. i personally prefer on models, its important to see how the clothes shape around the body.

So the shopping is easy, but what's it like when it comes to receiving the items? Well, Zara are offering up three methods of delivery. A free delivery to stores, yes a FREE delivery service! A great idea for the city folk who know they are not going to be in during the day for a home delivery, They also offer £3.95 standard delivery, which is the average price for this form of delivery. However for those wanting their shopping quick, they will have to put their hand in their pocket as it will cost them £9.95!! Too much for some i feel.

Although i love this website i must say several times i have clicked on pages and i have been shown an error message, no doubt these are early problems i'm sure Zara will correct in time! Perhaps now H&M will speed up their transactional website which is due to be unveiled by the end of this year! lets hope before the Lanvin collaboration.

The Tantalising World of Tatts!!

Yes, you are reading right! I have posted a new blog.... The first in months, and back by popular demand ... To my surprise! Thanks to those requesting a new blog, and there was more than one of you!

So, on my return what subject does one talk about? And that is the question I have been asking since the last blog, being uninspired to write has become a bit of a problem!

I could talk about the Naomi Campbell blood diamonds fiasco, the vogue September cover or even Angelina Jolie turning designer!

But, instead, I am going to talk about tattoos! Fashionable or fashion faux pas
After having a number of tattoos done and another one done today I wanted to look at the subject and see what people really think! Friends always say to men 'oh don't get another one,' but do I listen? No you go ahead and get it anyway! You think it will cool, but what happens once it's done and you don't like it? Well nothing is the honest answer.... That is unless you can afford laser removal!

My honest opinion is that I love all four of my tattoos, but I would change at least one thing on my earliest three tattoos. Whether it is the language I used, it's placement or where I got it done, this normally comes with time and as the latest addition is still killing me (I write this still wrapped in cling film) I imagine I will find something to want to change! Regardless of this I know my tattoos are right for me when people evergreen compliment them, ask what they mean and say they like it, this is no exaggeration when I say this happens every week! Especially at the burton till point!

So I say tattoos make us unique, some people like them, some don't, some have small ones and some are covered in them! But don't be fooled there are many ways to make us unique!

Tattoos get a thumbs up from me!

Great to be back guys!!

All Saints - Regent Street

On Friday I went had a spot of retail therapy during my lunch break, so as a fan of allsaints i went to check out the new Regent street store!
I remember stumbling across the recent store in notting hill at the start of the year and being amazed! It was a fine example of an allsaints outlet that encompassed all aspects o the brand and their identity. However the new Regent Store is in a whole other league. It spans 3 floors and offers a huge range of product! As usual the singer sewing machines are in the windows, with the rustic interior we are all used to.

I had a Allsaints gift card in my possesion, thanks to my flat mate, and felt the need to treat myself..... I ended up treating myself a little too much! I got my hands on two tops and a anchor necklace! The added bonus was the 25% off they have been offering all over the bank holiday weekend, what generous people! After such a rare opportunity I hope you all went out and treated yourselves!!
If you haven't seen the new store definetely stop off on your next trip to regent street!

The New 'New Man'

So as usual on Thursday morning I get the free weekly mens magazine, shortlist, as I enter the tube station, thie weeks edition shows a very striking red cover spelling 'MAN,' as a mens magazine that's no surprise. But opening the cover and flicking to the related article I found myself fully engrossed in the words, the article was thought provoking, comic and making perfect sense.

As we all know the idea of what a 'man' should be has changed over the years, the man's man, metrosexual, the new man .... But all that has changed according to this article, we are now looking for a balance between them. Yes it is still ok to like clothes and moisturise but now it is important for you to retain those defining masculine aspects. The new man is the mix between macho and metro, find that delicate balance, and you become 'apparently' what women want, the 'Rogue Male.'

In our modern day a 'man' has grown to be so much more, according to the article men should drive, but fight, in to sport but yet able to cook, have a beer and watch the game, but easily view a arty film with a glass of white. The new dimensions added create a more interesting, full and deep ideal for the man. I guess it combines the best bits of the man's man and the metrosexual, and why can't we match both? It's not as if these traits are contradictory.

According to shortlist these changes have been bought about by the changes in consumer culture and the rise in powerful women. It states ' Traditionally the male role is to be the provider, but female empowerment has muddied the waters, if men can't be providers, they can be protectors.' This also explains the rise in males partaking in contact sports, such as martial arts or kick boxing.

This is one of the best articles i have read in a long time, and who to think it from a free magazine! I throughly advise anyone read this if they have a copy and haven't done so yet, or pass it on to your boyfriends if you are looking for an upgrade! Plus a nice reassuring statistic was 60% of men will go and see Sex & The City 2 with their girlfriends..... does that make it ok for me to go?

British Soap Awards

Admittedly after moving to London i erased all soaps from my tv viewing, but after a recent call from a very good friend, she informed me of the latest from the British Soap Awards, and after seeing the pictures of the evening i feel compelled enough to blog it!

Back in the day i used to watch Hollyoaks religiously, and don't mind admitting that Sasha Valentine, played by Nathalie Emmanuel, was little crush of mine. Especially when she graced the screen in those Beyonce inspired gold hot pants and huge afro.......HOT! But at the recent soap awards i feel she took it to another level, wearing a gorgeous full length gown. She looked stunning with her radiant skin tone, the wind in her hair and displaying a stunningly curvy figure. Nathalie has come from a girl to a real woman while in Hollyoaks, she looked elegant and graceful, something rare for a soap star.

However she is not the only member of the Hollyoaks cast that deserves a mention. Bronagh Waugh, who plays the loud mouthed barmaid Cheryl, made a very big entrance. The actress wore a transparent shift dress, that luckily covered all the right places with black sequins, and no underwear underneath, a very brave move. Although i am not a massive fan on the dress, u have to respect her for being brave enough to flash the flesh.

Finally Loui Batley, who plays a model in Hollyoaks, 'Apparently' (can't see it myself). But her dress in my opinion is horrid, the feather skirt looks identical to the one available from Topshop last year, with some ridiculous customising that makes her look like a Xmas present.

The Dreaded Double D's!

Yes, i am talking about Double Denim, a trend that has hit us in recent months, one that is a bit like marmite, you either love it or you hate it.

As my previous blog shows a denim shirt that i recently purchased from All Saints i had attempted the DD look. A look that i like, but going to 'fashion school' you can only wonder what others are thinking. On the first day back at term i counted at least 8 people that were sporting the look. Does that make it trendy? Of course not, the combination is hard to get right with many conflicting views! One figure is saying get denim of similar colours, where others are saying do the opposite and wear contrasting denim. I am still not sure myself how to do it, and i don't believe there will ever be a definitive answer, its just a matter of preference. But with the celebrities sporting it including David Beckham and Channing Tatum, i think it's worth a try.

Regardless of how you do it there are a lot of wicked options out and about, including River Island, Burton, Topman, next and a very trendy option from Zara that was featured on this morning a few weeks back. That is just your high street options, and i'm sure there are many fantastic designer options for all those who want to flash the cash, including D&G who heavily featured it on their S/S 2010 collection! Which in hints at matching denim!

Yet again the friends that always feature in my blog have arrived again, and informed that double denim is dead! Just when i was beginning to enjoy it! Still i like it and will at least get some wears out of my All Saints shirt, and in summer i could always pair it with some cargo shorts!

Shopping Temptation

Being back in the city only 2 weeks, and it isn't long before you fall back in to your old routine, and along comes with it ... the bad habits, i.e. SHOPPING! Although some new ones are starting to!

In those two weeks i have been on oxford street about 5 times, due to uni and work, and westfield shopping centre at least 4, if not more. It's hard not to visit when it's only down the road! After all those shopping trips i had been really good and not bought a single thing, at least until i visited westfield the sunday just passed. With no work to go to i found myself wasting a day and it was gloriously sunny, so i got out the house for a spot of window shopping, visiting my usual stores, river island, H&M, Zara, Hollister as i was there and a few others. I went into the mens All Saints and, again found myself being drawn towards a denim shirt i had seen earlier in the week, and with a price point of £50 i thought it was a steal for a piece of All Saints. But i resisted!!

Anyway i got all the way home, was here for about 20 minutes before i had to leave again to buy the shirt!!

i was in shock at myself, i am beginning to think if i actually have some sort of a problem, a shopping addiction that should not be built into a guys genes regardless of what course he studies or what his hobbies and likes are! The thing is i didn't just buy the denim shirt, i ended up buying one from Hollister as well! spending nearly £100, ok, so some of you will be reading this and thinking that isn't very much, but it is to me! a student!

The next day i wore the shirt and was very happy with my purchase, after all the dreaded double denim is on trend at the moment! Who knows when i will have to hang that shirt in wardrobe and not be able to pull it back out till it hits the catwalks again. Meeting friends before uni i even got a compliment from a very fashionable friend, so that made me even more pleased! Actually two compliments, one from work, but then again they do work in Dorothy Perkins ha.

But today!! Another close friend, (well, was close ha) pointed out an apparently better one i could of bought from next! One was not amused, and now i have doubts haha, im sure these will be gone when i wear it again!

Today i resisted two more purchases from Zara, however it is playing on my mind now! Good Job Westfield is closed this time at night!

But From this day forward i am not buying clothes, unless essential! (HA im sure i could describe anything as essential), and i mean it so much tomorrow i am cutting my overdraft! Get it at the source i say!

So here is my Shirt, so you better like it and no hater comments ha

X

P.S sorry mum who i had rang between my two visits to westfield on sunday, and who, up to now, believed i was a good son and didnt spend my money on clothes!

Beautiful Juxtaposition!

Babies im back....... finally!!

After an almost 3 week holiday in the (sometimes) beautiful bay i have returned to the big city. Having been almost absent from my fashionista friends and the capital of the industry, and lost with no drapers to read i have been thinking long and hard about what fashionable topic i should blog on, when yesterday i thought of one!

Riding my usual 207 bus to shepherds bush tube station i saw something of mixed messages. So in london last weekend we had a beautiful weekend with glorious sunshine, so we shrugged off our scarves and coats, and finally i wore sunnies proudly! to embrace the sun! however the weather again has dampened down this week, but some people are convinced summer has hit. I have seen people wearing shorts and t-shirts, walking alongside those in scarfs and coats! Everyone is desperate for summer to come along, me just as much as anyone but why kid yourself? People must dress for the day that is ahead of them, clouds do not mean its ok to wear shorts.

I think my friends facebook status summed it up for me today, 'oh Sun, you are deceiving for it is NOT warm...'

Summer will be along soon my fellow readers so until then we must wait but enjoy what is around! :)

GaGa is pure Genius....

Yo Geeza's,
its been a little while so i thought i would get a quick one up why waiting for friends to arrive for some drinkies ...... so when you read this friends, come earlier next time!!!

So this week Lady Gaga released the video to her track Telephone Ft Beyonce! But this aint no ordinary music video, it could possibly be described as a very short film, kinda like when you read short stories ...... pointless, but fun. This video is pure genius, i love it! I know it was going to be good from the start when one of the prison guards (who have their bra's out for some reason) strip the Gaga down and reveal she doesn't have a penis! What a line to open with!

I love the way this video takes HUGE influence from the films Kill BIll, even featuring the actual Pussy Wagon! :) The style of dialogue, and using names such as 'Hunny B' is exactly like Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece! As well as using scenes like the american diner. The good thing about this video is that it does tell a story, all be it a very odd one, and nicely leads on from her 'paparazzi' video, as well suggesting their will be a follow on video from the 'to be continued' at the end.

The dancing in this video is also pretty wicked! The section near the start of the video when Gaga and some backing dancers dance down the corridor of the prison is pretty wicked, especially as they are all practically wearing nothing! It's not like lady Gaga to be revealing! The style of dancing here is one that isn't typical to her dance videos, and i think it shows she has great talent not just for singing, as well as the end dance sequence at the end with Beyonce in the American diner.

I guess i should comment on the outfits used as this is supposed to be a blog loosely based on fashion and the industry, and i guess it is kind of unusual i haven't blogged on the artist yet as she is so forward in her dress. My favourite costume on the whole video is the one where she goes to the yard of the prison with chains wrapped around her and those cigarette glasses! To me this looks really cool, but obviously not marketable! Lady Gaga has those signature looks that no one could pull off bar her, which is kind of why Beyonce sticks out like a sore thumb! Nevertheless she still looks soooooo HOT! But i do have to say before i finish is that i absolutely hate the scenes where she is dancing in front of the pussy wagon in that horrible leopard print catsuit that goes over her head and incorporates a drivers hat!

All in all this video is awesome! I can't wait for her next one .... nor anyone else's that may wanna have a bash at a longer piece!

P.S I did buy some new jeans!!! i havent wrote about anything i have bought in ages! but i did buy these jeans, i cba to get a picture for you but they are really cool with a cuffed hem!

P.P.S I started writing about 20 minutes ago, it is now nearly 8.10, WHERE IS EVERYONE!!! haha

Is it Fashionable to smile?? :/

The other day i was travelling home from work, and of course living in london this almost always involves taking the tube. It wasn't until this time that i realised how miserable everyone looks, and the same can be said for me. Travelling home late after work, on your own, knowing you have to cook tea and finish your uni work when you get back, why should i smile?

Normally on the tube 50-60% of people have headphones in, and those who don't are normally reading, and the few that are left are sleeping. So ok Sleeping excused, why can't we smile will reading? or more importantly why can't we smile when listening to our music? Surely music is supposed to bring happiness and joy to those who are listening, as long as you aren't listening to someone depressing. As everyone know it takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown, so again why shouldn't we! All it takes is one person, one person to smile, and like a yawn, smiles can be contagious. You could be the one to start that. :)

There could be a number of reasons why people choose not to smile, at home everyone is normally smiling, well sort of. Moving to London all you see is rushing people, with headphones in and blank expression. But before you know it you become one of them, you are sucked into that way of life without even wanting to be. No matter how early you leave for work or uni etc etc you still end up rushing, climbing the escalator instead of standing on the shitting right hand side! What ever happened to walking i don't know! London people i think are just lazy, well a hefty percentage of them. That is evident in the bus i have to catch that feels the need to stop every 100 metres!! If people just slowed down, and smiled every now and then would london be a better place to live? Who knows, but you still have to love our beautiful city with or without smiling faces, because this is all made up when you see your friends faces! At least someone is happy to see you!

Maybe the models of the catwalk could try a smile every now and then, are real people that expressionless? saying that are real people that tall and thin, i guess not.

Smiling should be fashionable!

And the Oscar goes to ......

Who gives a shit, lets just check out what the A - listers are wearing!

Ok so i need to start by saying for those who have read the previous blog on VB i apologise for getting it wrong! She had lied to me, or rather changed her mind im sure, and she didn't go for the gown that i claimed, but rather a different one of her creations.
She went for a floor length champagne A- symmetric gown, cinched in at the waist! It is one of the strengths of her collection but didn't really carry the wow factor you would expect from someone of her stature.

Carey Mulligan turned up in a very cute Prada dress. Being a petite lady i would of expected a short knee length number, but instead she opted for a longer dress, that was high at the front revealing some calf. I guess the Oscar springs longer length gowns to mind. The Black suited nicely to her skin tone, and her pixie haircut looked great with the larger earrings.

Another personal favourite of mine was Sandra Bullock, who also collected the award for best actress last night. She was in a stunning Marchesa Gown. It was a metallic, strapless, full length number with beautiful detailing on the Top. Accessorised with a small clutch and very simple bracelet she looks flawless.

Rather an Odd ball of a dress but one i find myself loving is offered up by Rachel McAdams. She was pictured wearing Elle Saab, with a weaved bodice and free flowing skirt, it looked truly elegant. The colour is so hard to describe its best you look, but the sheer unusualness draws me to it, it isn't your typical oscar dress.

As usual with the scars comes the worst dressed, a list no one wants to make it onto and for me their is two stand outs that i just hate......

The first being Maggie Gyllenhaal, i dunno what about it i hate, i just know i do. I guess the oriental style isn't really doing it for me, but im sure many of you will like it.

And finally i have my worst dress which comes from Zoe Saldana, i just hate it, looks like some weird purple truffle, with that disgusting colour blocking (that was on trend last year, not this) makes it look like a B&Q colour palette. If i am looking to decorate my bathroom lilac than i'll pull up this photo to hold against my wall. The only good thing about it is the embellishment detail at the top, but nevertheless it looks like she is wearing two dresses and the lilac one was just too short she had to stick something else on underneath! Despite it being Givenchy haute couture im just not warming to it.

As you can see jewellery was at the fore front of this years ceremony, but it was more about the understated fashion statement, about sheer elegance, and little flashing of the flesh!

VB A/W 10 ...... better late than never....

So today (sunday) The Sunday Times released 'The Big Fashion Issue' therefore i popped down to the local shops to purchase mine. (God do i feel like an old lady popping to the local shops, my only adventure out today, barr a run .... sort of). I opened it and got like 8 different magazines, all of which pointless and far to high brow for me to read, but the fashion insert was like a beautiful big issue with its matte paper and un-glossy finish. i flicked through, and still yet to read it but then i came across a Victoria Beckham dress. In the feature she deconstructs her favourite piece from the collection explaining the details, colour, fabric and how to wear it.

Now, as my flat mate has just highlighted i am biased as i am a huge fan of the Beckham brand, therefore i am gunna try to write this a professional way and with no slant to my borderline obsession, i also have read no reviews of her collection other than VB's few words i have read today. therefore everything i say is what i feel and not rubbish i have read and decided to regurgitate to you! I think im drawn to VB and her collections naturally because of the elegance of them, my favourite style of clothing is that of evening dresses and ball gowns. Something about the materials, embellishments, ability to drape the fabric and the pure effort and craftsmanship makes me favour these style of garments.

So anyway onto VB, i have just looked through the pictures courtesy of marie claire and do like the collection. OK, so it is an ex spice girl, and she is definitely finding it hard to make her name as a designer, but could this be the break through collections for her? Who knows, i guess we will have to wait and see how sales hold up. However, if being labelled a 'designer' is someone who creates innovative clothes, than i don't think Victoria Beckham can claim that name. But if a designer is someone who can create flawless, wearable, beautiful, inspiring and utterly elegant clothing than VB can without a doubt be called a designer. Her Fall ''10 collection is beautifully made, it shows fantastic lines and silhouettes, all create a sensationally feminine shapes. In her deconstruction of the above dress she says 'This Season, evening wear should skim the floor.' I couldn't agree more, the dress just skims her thighs and you can see the motion of the material from the still image. However this can't be said for all of her dresses as many are knee length.

Colour wise we see the very on trend nudes, as well as her usual black, and eye popping colours including lipstick red, midnight blue and even metallics. One of my favourite piece's is a full length nude dress. It deceivingly looks like a coat that has been drawn across the body with a simple waistband. This creates a stunning open split almost up the full length of the garment, rather seducing it leads the viewers eye to start at the bottom and slowly rise up. There are many pieces in the collection i like, some i love and some i just think 'oh no' but overall she has done a cracking job on it, and will definitely be making a return appearance for S/S 2011, and i for one am throughly looking forward to it.

Well after looking at this it has gone me in an oscars mood, and there is great hype about what will our favourite celebs be wearing on the red carpet! So you can read the next blog to find out, who knows maybe we will see a few VB pieces out there, with Victoria Beckham claiming she will wear the stunning floor length number at the top herself.

Bonjour lecteurs, un séjour à Paris

Again another hectic week, but i will become a more regular blogger soon!!!

This week one has been travelling across the Channel to Paris, just in time for PFW, despite not seeing anything of course, barr some very stunning luxury stores.

It was my first time to the city, and luckily had some friends who had been there several times before. We saw all the usual sights, eiffel tower, arc de triomphe, Notre Dame, place de la concorde, obelisque de luxor, basilique de Sacre Coeur and the Louvre. All accomplished with lots and lots of walking!!! God knows how many steps we took, but it was all worth it, seeing all the little cobbled side streets made it feel even more special. The Louvre is something i have always wanted to see, so on the first night we walked there. It was great seeing the building all light up, and the amazing series of glass pyramids placed within it! I was determined to find the rose line but had no success, i was assured it did exist though! perhaps next time i will find it! :) I didn't venture into the Louvre as i feel it is summing that needs more than a couple of hours to see, so it will be one of my first stops on my next visit. Eiffel tower was a little disappointing as magnificent a piece of architecture it is i just wasn't blown away like i felt i should of been.

The mini break was great, and this was largely due to the friends i was with! It was full of laughs, great debate, serious topics as well as just plain silly moments and stupid comments!! All we drank was coffee, wine and beer, had several lunches, nice dinners and a very french breakfast. Trips like this aren't worth going on unless you are with the right people, and now it feels odd to be sat at home with none of them around! I had a great time sharing a room with two of my best friends! Hilarious is the only word that can sum it up!

All in all the trip was worth it, despite the expense and now very low bank balance! and some thefts among my friends!! (stupid stealing parisians!) It has also confirmed my choice to start learning french! so bring on april, and another trip to france in the future!
Thank you to everyone who made it special!

The National Wedding Show

Hey guys, sorry i have been a while for soo long it has been very hectic. last week i did the National wedding show at the Kensington Olympia. This week i have had two uni deadlines that i have been working like crazy for.

The National Wedding show was really fun, although at times annoying and very very tiring. I started at about 9.30 every morning through to about 6.30, and one night 8 o'clock. they are some long hours for me to be doing 5 days in a row!! but still at least i got paid.

For this event i had 2 days of fitting and rehearsals, with 3 days of shows....... 13 SHOWS IN TOTAL!!!!!! much more than anything i have previously done. Of course i am just a student i had a really low role in the working hierarchy. Even though i have organised two of my own shows, which i must compliment myself as they were GOOD! But for this i was a mere dresser, which obviously comes with its perks being a boy in a predominant female industry!!

A dresser is pretty much what it says on the tin, i dress my model, easy as. OK not that easy in a wedding show due to large and heavy dressers, varying shoes, shawls, tiara and even gloves, and the most ridiculous miniature hats that were impossible to attach. There were 8 scenes, all of which my model was in and therefore 8 outfit changes, some of which were not great, like crazy small buttons and tough zips.

p.s. This pic is gross ha

I have dressed only once before which was very last minute, but this experience was very exhilarating, the quick and dramatic changes, the moments were something went wrong and you had to quickly rectify the problem, those moments create such a buzz, you just love being there. I can only liken it to some sort of extreme sport, ridiculous as it sounds, but it really feels like that, obviously not for everyone as some just don't cares.

The thing that made my experience more enjoyable was my model. Shaila Gonzaga, she has a truly beautiful personality, apparently i never stopped talking about her, claiming i was in love! but i assure you it wasn't like that, just that my model broke down all social stereotypes that are placed upon them, and from what you hear. My model is only in the UK for a few months, and therefore does not have many friends, and i felt for her here, London can be an extremely lonely place, i would know recently moving. But at the end of our last day she said to me i was like her best friend here, and that was just after 5 days. I think you will agree that is something special for her to say so i was very grateful! So i may have got her a little parting treat :)
(plus one of the best things is that she had modelled for Victoria Beckham's collection last year..... booyah)

Shaila is getting married this year, so if she ever reads this (which i highly doubt) than i wish her the best of luck in her marriage.

Peace Out Guys

A Beautifully Directed Film......

Hey Guys,

so last night i went to the cinema and watched 'a single man' with some friends. I was sad enough to be taking notes just for this blog, and just for my precious little readers.

So before getting into the finer details, i just have to say i loved the film, as did my friends. For those of you who have seen the trailer i would say that it doesn't truly convey the story line, as the story was different to how i had expected, and for those fans of Nicholas Hoult he is not in the film a great deal, well not as much as you would think from the trailer.

The film shows some great performances from all of the central characters. It is clear to see why Colin Firth has been nominated for best actor at the Oscars this year, his acting capability was sensational in this film, he conveyed convincingly real emotions. As if he wasn't a character, but living the film, a viewer could see the actor had truly embedded himself in the story, and dug deep into the script and himself. In one of the early scenes you see Colin, or George as he is in the film, discover about his partners death, within the blink of an eye his whole manner had changed. Not just the facial expressions, or tone in his voice but everything about his de mina had flipped. Of course, the film also starred Julianne Moore. Admittedly an actress i was not to familiar with, nevertheless a incredible performance. She played some middle aged divorcee, that was still in love with George from their teens, who loved to drink, smoke and have dramatic mood swings, most definitely like a character from absolutely fabulous.

A Single Man is most certainly an 'arty' film, and one i am not normally drawn to, and even this case i feel i was only attracted to the name behind the film and not the story itself, it would of been more likely a DVD watch than cinema under a different director. For Fords first film it is a great credit that showed real creative genius. Visually it was incredibly stylish, all suits by Tom Ford, and various other clothing items, great hair styles, cars, sensational architecture (i.e. George's house) and even went as far as the gun George had. An incredibly black Revolver, with silver finishing ...... not just any old gun. Colin constantly looked impeccable, even as a fashion student i did not think there could be huge difference in a white shirt, but George's white shirt was so much more, it perfectly fitted, button down colour and great sleeve detail, 3 buttons not just one. I guess that show's the difference between high street and luxury. However one peculiarity that kept coming to the forefront was characters telling George he didn't look to good, the man was wearing a Tom Ford suit who wouldn't look good? his skin was flawless, hair, even his expression, i felt nothing made him look 'unwell,' he was perhaps a lil too perfect, even his windsor knot and tie pin were perfect. Kenny (Nicholas Hoult's) tan was a little too perfect, well a bit orange, but yet their was subtle enhancements in the contrast, in turn enhancing his skin tone, and i can't give you my view why because i just don't know.

From an audio aspect a beautiful soundtrack was used. There was many overtures, heavily violin and string based, but exquisite, soft and silky, yet finely highlighted those dramatic moments. Even the sound of pouring rain was used just after the opening of the film, no dialog could be heard just rain, George run's through the rain to his best friend Charlotte's (Julianne Moore's) House. They both depict some true, from the heart acting, of course this is just after George discovers his partner has died. During one scene even the dialog discretely slips from English to Spanish, the words come from George as if he has been talking Spanish the whole time (possibly my favourite scene of the whole film). Here we see George meet a Spanish Man in a liquor store car park, here we see for the first time George isn't afraid to pay a compliment to man, since Jim's death, although it is possible to argue by doing it in spanish it is sort of a barrier or comfort blanket, as if it makes it ok.

The Film has constant flashback's to time's with Jim, which need no explanation as you'll understand when you watch, but there was also flashes to a naked body in the water, from start to finish, it is not until the end that we see it is George. He slowly gets closer and closer to the surface, as if he can finally gasp for air, just reaching the surface before he dies. I think symbolising how trapped and suffocated George was, he has been stuck in the same place since Jim died, unable to move on, but it's when he dies himself he sets himself free.

The film displays beautiful symmetry, that i think is unusual to most film. It starts when we see Jim's dead body, George approaches, lies next to him, and kisses his lips, yet it is not until the a few scenes later we realise he never was truly there, it is just a figment of his imagination as he is called to be informed off the death. And at the end of the film as George suffers a heart attack he falls to the floor, and in come's Jim, through George's blurred vision we see him, he leans down and presses his lips against George's, and his eyes close.

This film truly is great, my favourite thing about it is it is not overtly sexual, it isn't thrusted up in your face that this film is based on a gay couple, there is no sex scenes like a typical contemporary film like broke back mountain. This film truly is for everyone, not just arty people or those going for Tom Ford. I could write so much more, and ive have only spoke about half of my notes but it's just getting too long now ..... sorry for those who many want more.

Writer's Block ..... Well to start with

So after very few blogs i am already stuck for a topic....... i could do the predictable and comment on the death of Lee McQueen, but that would be an injustice to him and a lie to all my readers. I have never really followed his work fully, nor been a huge fan, although i am not afraid to admit he was a great designer, just not to my taste, so that is why i am not going to blog it regardless it is a sad time for many, and a tragic loss to the fashion industry.

However, having ruled that out, i feel i have nothing left to write about, i feel uninspired, thoughtless and am currently lacking the ability to focus on any one topic. There is a lot going on at the moment with two uni assignments, as well as a fair fews hours at work the last 7 days.

Nevertheless a fashion student would have something to write about if the something happening in the fashion industry, its very slow at the moment, no ground breaking news or innovation, one boring piece of news from today is that New Look have dropped their IPO and will no longer be floating on the London Stock Exchange, leaving them in a sticky situation and £1bn worth of debt. (Great news for one of my uni projects).

Probably one of the most interesting thing i have done this week is attend a lecture from Ibrahim Ibrahim from Portland. He gave a fascinating insight into the future, development sin technology, architecture, retail and the way we shop. According to him our stores may not even be stocking products, or more that they are manufactured in store, because apparently the consumer wants customisation these days? As well as this Nintendo has engineered technology that is heavily bedded in the ability to follow a person's movements, you can shop online and with use of the webcam you can see how the clothes look on you. But for me this isn't shopping, this is like dressing your avatar on xbox 360 dashboard or second life. Do consumers not want to feel the weight of clothes, quality, material etc etc To move away from our traditional methods of retail and shopping is a good move, but to the extremes that were outlined to me. The Prada store in NYC has had made several advances, a changing room is no longer a box with a mirror, its almost a computer style capsule, as you walk in the codes from the garments are registered, immediately put on to the screen, here the consumer can see it on the runway show, as well as testing it in different light. OK, so this is great for luxury brands, but is it right for retail? Do we really care what these jeans look like at night? Probably not, unles sits a special garment, perhaps a dress for a wedding or something alike.

So Ibrahim predicts a slightly scary future, for example your avatar from second life calling your real life mobile, which just crosses so many weird cyber boundaries that are not meant to crossed, as well as technology involving a projector and camera, that when you see friends etc their Facebook page is projected out? This is not social networking, it's becoming a internet stalker. However how much we can read into this i am not sure, as he claimed Westfield is the last shopping centre we will see of its kind, but yet the sister complex is currently being built in East London.

But who knows, all we can do is wait and see. And it seems apparently i did have something to write about.

Tom Ford - A Man Who Can Do No Wrong?

Tom Ford ...... who really knows where to start with him, he is a man with a number or talents and achievements all under his very stylish belt. As a young man aspiring to be the Fashion industry i found myself looking for a man to look up to, to influence me, someone i could be inspired by, pretty quickly Tom ford filled that slot. (No Pun Intended.)

It all started when i apply for London college of Fashion, i needed to very quickly brush up on my fashion knowledge and therefore i went to amazon and bought a tonne of books that i aimed to read before my interview. My first to read, and to this day my favourite book is 'Fashion Brands: From Armani to Zara' by Mark Tungate. The book covers a vast range of industry topics, companies and designers. Here Tom Ford and i were introduced, i read all about his resurrection of Gucci like a phoenix rom the ashes. Since then he has gone on to design for other's such as Yves Saint Lauren, create his own brand 'Tom Ford,' and most recently direct a film, 'A Single Man' starring Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult.

After leaving Gucci and YSL in 2004 he started his own brand which has gone on to be a great success. Starting with his well respected eyewear, something i will most definitely be investing in this summer, and now it also includes beauty, menswear and accessories for both genders. The advertisements for his brand really pushed the sexuality boundaries, see my previous blog for more information. They represented many naked figures of both sexes including same sex shoots. In December 08 we saw GQ celebrate their 20 year anniversary, with a sensational issue. Here we saw David Beckham grace the cover for the second time since 2002, and which featured a 12 page spread of fabulous photography and interview. Beckham was dressed in Tom Ford throughout the issue, and it looked great. David was a great guy who is a visionary form of what the brand is about, sophisticated, classic, stylish and current. This brand is going from strength to strength and is only destined to get better.

So i think its easy to see why is a great male in fashion to aspire to, ok so i don't want to be a designer, but he held the role of creative director, so much more was under his control than just the collection itself, he holds a great business head as well as holding the creative skills to make him a success. Eventually if i achieve i fraction of what he has i will be satisfied with my career accomplishments. Would i like to be the straight Tom Ford........ too right? who wouldn't, there is only two men i have love for and he is one of them. (Ha i am not telling who the other is, although i may of mentioned him above :/ )

If you are not familiar with Tom Ford i suggest you check out www.tomford.com its a great website, check it out for a trailer of a single man too. It's out on the 12th of Feb in the uk, i will be going to watch it a couple of days after so i'll let u guys know what i think, but after being nominated for several awards i doubt it will fail to deliver.

The Great Male Renunciation

Hey guys sorry it has been so long, i've been extremely busy lately but i'm back finally.

Lately at uni, in historical and cultural studies we have been looking at the 'Great Male Renunciation,' and i have to say it is my favourite topic we have looked at, its so fascinating to see how men's fashion has changed over time. I studied History at A-level so it's interesting seeing pictures of historical figures i am already familiar with, but instead of focusing on them, you focus on the clothes and its amazing how much they tell you about that time period.

However this week we focused on the latter years of the 20th century, focusing on designers advertising campaigns how it really came to the fore front of sexuality, gender and how sex really sells.

Brands such as Calvin Klein, D&G and Tom Ford (which i am going to blog on in a few days as im so obsessed and touch upon his new film) really push the boundaries, we see strong nudity and the reversal of natural gender roles. As well as the models and in turn suggesting the consumers, sexual orientation is evidentially thrusted up on the viewers eye, and not just heterosexual images but homosexual. This is 'The homospectatorial look' ...... in other words women can attract the 'gaze' from men but also women, and vice versa. We no longer live in a one sexuality world, and why can't woman appreciate the female form? and men appreciate the male form? We all have our own ideals of beauty, and by looking at others of the same sex we can define ours, and possibly what we aspire to, e.g. a man starting the gym to get a 6 pack.

Of course for men to be able to feel comfortable and confident with this new of looking at beauty, there had to be a starter point, or a catalyst, arguably sports. Men have always been free to partake in contact sports such as rugby, but of course this slightly takes the argument out of context, but nevertheless still valid. We have seen the birth of 'The New Man' and it's extreme, the 'Metrosexual' man, merely men with attributes and traits of a homosexual man, but heterosexual. Men have established a new, and acceptable attitude to fashion, i for one hope it remains this way. The question i pose to all the ladies reading ..... would you like a man that doesn't take pride in himself? Gets up, sprays some deodrant, throws on the nearest trackie and is set for the day?

In our modern day society men are catching up with the consumer rates of women, we almost equally need the skin products, hair cut's, treatments and right clothing to survive in the cut throat society, especially that of London. With constant growth in men's fashion's i think its about time the high street and various other brands and companies need to open their eyes and deliver to male consumers in the way they want, as something is serious lacking.

Ive Really enjoyed this one guys so i hope you have too, keep your eyes peeled for Tom Ford Special.

In Short went shopping today spent too much money than i should of, regardless on the list a very nice new check shirt, jumper and scarf from zara...... none of which i can show due to the crappy website that will be shop-able online by the end of this year for all of you who didn't know, a very nice leather look jacket from pull and bear's new collection...... and some very cool 3/4 jogger;s from River Island, i'm a big fan but material could be better.

Drapers Etailer awards 2010

YAAAAAAAAAY i was actual at a real fashion show/ awards ceremony after organising two myself it was about time i saw the real deal haha :)

So Drapers Etailer awards...... all you readers should know what drapers is, and how vital it is to us fashion students so no need to explain, and ofcourse it was awards for the years greatest online retailers.

So, strolling down oxford street with the flat mate and a friend, and out of the blue she gets a call and is asked to be a dresser at the awards, and it just so happens 3 people had dropped out....... amazing coincidence :) so off we went almost running to the venue like 25 minutes away at the very grand bloomsbury ballroom, near holborn.

The show featured clothes and shoes from a vast range of outlets and designers including newlook man, river island, diesel and Vivienne Westwood. Backstage we had a wicked stylist and her assistant, 4 male models and 5 female......and us 10 dressers. Paul (the event manager from RAH productions) kept popping in and out.

I was assigned my model ramon, who had 4 outfits in the 7 scene show. He wore clothes from linear, suit, junk de luxe and baracuta. He was a really down to earth guy, but obviously we didn't have much time to chat as i had to sort his clothes out, prep, steam, hang etc etc

So we did the usual thing that you can imagine happens before these events, met our models, dressed them in their outfits, then a dress run-through, steam the clothes then went for dinner and finally the real thing. The models came back from hair and make - up and into their opening outfits.
Claudia Winkleman was presenting, she arrived, wondered around while we dressed, and guests came in to their complimentary champagne. (We may have had a cheeky glass).
And finally the show began, and before you knew it, it was over. Time flew by, outfits went on and off and everything was a success. There was no major problems or set backs, and everyone looked great. The only thing left to do was pack up......... and slyly get a goody bag as we left :).

For my first real experience in fashion and as a dresser, it was truly awesome. Everyone was really nice, no bitchiness like you would think, and our effort generally was greatly appreciated, hopefully i will work with them again soon.

Next blog is already in my head, so you will see it up soon.
Take Care

S/S 2010 ....... HURRY UP.

I am just bursting at the seams to shrug off my chunky knitwear, winter accessories and layer after layer. I am beginning the summer to just come on by quickly, i need to wear flip-flops, deck shoes, shorts and most importantly my SUNNIES. (The fashion piece that should be worn all year round)

So what is in-store for all you guys and gals in the teenies, what's on trend and what should you be buying?

Girls you are up first..... for you everything is getting nude, and shorter as we saw more flesh than any trend in the past decade, i think Miuccia Prada's chandelier dresses confirm that, they are a pure work of genius, and something you never think could be commercial. However i know the majority of you females reading this prefer high-street to high end. As touched upon skirts are getting shorter, revealing more thigh,(unfortunately the maxi dress won't be back this year :( ) as well heels getting smaller, kitten heels and even clogs are going to be bang on trend for the coming months......thank GOD i am not a girl, clogs? i think not.
Colour wise, nudes, ice creams, so far from last years eye popping and block colours. As well as this we see the usual white, always a key player for summer, so look out for your bleached washes. However for those of you who do want to add colour, try a check and make it subtle....... NO bold blocks.
Finally lady friends key pieces......party dresses, for day and night, jumpsuits (YAY) and loose trousers tapering to teh ankle in light weight soft fabrics.

Now that all sounds pretty fine to mine, are you looking forward to your new wardrobes??

Alreet Geezas your next.

Ok, one simple rule i think to start with.... tailoring is out, CASUAL is in. (For those who must do tailoring keep it soft.) For you non fashion following men, stop reading, that rule will see you through just fine, all others....... feel free to carry on.
A strong theme from the shows envisaged a travel theme, with roomy bags and sports shoes, creating a feel that comfort is key. Again similarly to the female trends men are also showing more flesh, with revealing vests and open tops. Also the feeling of an urban attire came across using neutral colours, greys, cream, white and black. Although you guys could turn to pastel shades if your yearn for some colour. Accessories wise plastic sunglasses are back, as well bags of all shapes and sizes and high top trainers.
However my research says big labels went for slim line trousers, but recent trend reports are showing skinny jeans are out for summer, and loose denim is in.....so if you need some new jeans i suggest either, carrot, relaxed, bootcut or even loose fit jeans, my personal pick would be carrot or relaxed as it tapers at the bottom still leaving a nice silhoutte.

Hope that helps you guys out.

Right two new purchases this week both from Asos.com.

So a L/S waffle top witha grandad neck and charcoal in colour. It has elasticated cuffs..... great for us men with long arms wooo hooo (also i am mad about the grandad neck atm, and you should be too)
Secondly a charcoal (again..... im an addict to the palette of monochrome) .... hooded vest with a scoop neck. The lower neck is great, and not choking like other vests, but although i have always been a hater of people wearing vests on their own, however this one looks good, and if i hit the gym before summer may just pull off the look in Torquay's finest beaches this summer HA.

Will be back soon with more loving for all you readers.

The 'Propa' Way to Socialise

As requested by some friends, a blog especially for them

The 'Propa' Way to Socialise ......

So i started uni in september, and the first term was slow, boring, unsociable, how the last 2 weeks of that term i finally found myself beginning to feel like i fitted in, i had a group of friends that accepted me, and wanted to know who i was. But then we all went our separate ways for christmas.

Now we have come back and the last 2 weeks has been some fun, and very sociable times, with lunches, coffee, social drinks and a very fun night out, which ended in struggling to get home..... stupid london night buses.

And last night i held my first real social event in my "lovely" lil flat, ( i was really surprised at how the reacted to my place, it really isn't that great ha) it was just the 3 of us, we had a take away and sipped rose wine...... this is the 'propa' way to socialise. OK, so some of you with more money may go to nice dinner and wine bars, but whats better than sitting in the comfort of your own home, with some great fines :)
After the success of the first night, although more troubles getting home haha bless them, i think i/we will hold more sociable events.

sorry its a short one but i have to leave for work.
Enjoy your day readers.

Best Dressed 2010

Hello again, time for round 2.......

so GQ has released their annual Best - Dressed list for 2010 in association with Allsaints Spitalfields. For those of you who want a hard copy you should be able to pick up the handout at any allsaints store, as well as vogue one for all you fashion following females.

A countdown of Britain's most stylish men reveals some surprising entries, as well as some very pleasing ones.

A surprising addition is the re-entry of ronnie corbett (someone you never expect to see if a fashion magazine when you pick one up) at 46, nevertheless as GQ puts it 'good things come in little packages.' HE stick to his clean crisp suits, which naturally never date. He's followed by Grace Jones as 42, Prince Charles at 36, Sir Elton at 14, i can see why this one may be considered stylish but still really? My final surprise at the magnificent No.4 is the very odd fantastic Mr Fox. However having not seen the film im not sure im in a good enough position to comment, but how does a animated fox become best dressed? Although he is a character who has been associated with fashion being part of Gaps windows in Oxford Street last season....... apparently tweed is a go-er.

Unfortunately for some of the men featured they have dropped a severe number of places from last years list. Christian Bale, this years No.40, has unfortunately dropped 26 places from 14. I personally think Batman has never been so stylish. Price Charles dropped an even bigger number of places, a HUGE 31, as well as Lucian Freud dropping 28, and Christopher Bailey 21. However i feel the harshest blow come to poor Mark Ronson, although im not a fan, i feel for him. Everyone knows last year he was THE best dressed, and this year he is a mere 30, something i don't think he will be happy with.

At Number 44 this year we have Ashley Cole, a new entry for best dressed....... but is this a surprise when he has britain's favourite female celebrity at his side. No doubt Cheryl has been dressing him so that he keeps up to her standard, ill be surprised if he can tie his owe tie to be honest. But you do have to admit, lately he is more of a trend setter than a fashion follower. I say well done to ashley for making it, but not so sure if he will be here next year.

Finally before i get to NO.1 some of my favourite entries. At 22 we see the CBBLB host, George Lamb, so ok i think his style is an acquired taste, but still elegant and sophisticated. You never see him without his blazer, or some tailored trousers. Tom Ford, teh man that saved Gucci, and gone on to start his own Brand at No.05, a fantastic result. He has a very clean and crisp style, and never gets it wrong, who wouldn't want to be seen with him? Personally i feel he is going up even further next year, a possible No.1?
Now this is gunna be no surprise but my favourite entry is ofcourse, David Beckham. My all time style icon, the man i love, what man doesn't love him? This year he has gained the chart, now at No.9, the Beckhams are without a doubt the most stylish couple going, and have been for a long time.

Right finally No.1, im sure many of you ladies will love it but personally i don't see it, nor am i a big fan, well no fan at all. So, it is everyone's favourite vampire Robert Pattinson, that is unless you like jacob. Pictured here in Allsaints he looks very cool, but im sure he didn't dress himself, as their was most definitely going to be a stylist at the shoot.

So their is my low down on GQ's best dressed list for this year, im sure many of you will disagree, but who cares? its my opinion.

Finally no new purchases or rare finds, however i find myself going in every Allsaints i see, and like what i find, maybe you guys should check it out if your not a fan yet.

Look forward to writing again :)

Losing my blog virginity

First thing is first, thank you to rmurphs and chrisdoffer for helping me out in my first adventure into the blogging world.

So im me, a 18 year old boy living in London for the first time, and commencing in uni life...... at the all so prestigious London College of Fashion, particularly fashion management. As well as that i work in Burton on oxford street and just follow the usual life of a london student.

Its just me and my flat mate in our cosy lil 2 bedroom, but its good, we talk...... on the stoop.

And im sure that whatever we talk about i may blog, if appropriate as well as fashion, life and anything else i do, like or just want to comment on.

So for my first topic is 'The Global Village'.......

Well what the hell is that is the question i have been asking myself, but after some research i think i have a mild grasp ..... thank you lcf lecturers for explaining clearly.... NOT.
However over the past 2 decades technology has greatly evolved and we 'have extended our central nervous system to a global embrace.' Its like an extension of the senses, just like this blog or email. We can see, hear (as well as others) things that happen on the other side of the world almost at the same rate as face to face conversation.

So the task, pretend you a leader of a fashion brand, how would you launch the A/W 2010 Collection, using the global village to inspire and create a great strategy, what would you do?

I promise this will get more intresting this is my first bash, and as more happens i'll comment .... as well as letting you know things i've recently tried, bought or loved.

For today i BOUGHT a Superdry O/H hoodie in burgundy with osaka gel print...... i love it, all though it been a round a gd few months so nothing for you lil babies to get too excited about.

Keep you posted
