Drapers Etailer awards 2010

YAAAAAAAAAY i was actual at a real fashion show/ awards ceremony after organising two myself it was about time i saw the real deal haha :)

So Drapers Etailer awards...... all you readers should know what drapers is, and how vital it is to us fashion students so no need to explain, and ofcourse it was awards for the years greatest online retailers.

So, strolling down oxford street with the flat mate and a friend, and out of the blue she gets a call and is asked to be a dresser at the awards, and it just so happens 3 people had dropped out....... amazing coincidence :) so off we went almost running to the venue like 25 minutes away at the very grand bloomsbury ballroom, near holborn.

The show featured clothes and shoes from a vast range of outlets and designers including newlook man, river island, diesel and Vivienne Westwood. Backstage we had a wicked stylist and her assistant, 4 male models and 5 female......and us 10 dressers. Paul (the event manager from RAH productions) kept popping in and out.

I was assigned my model ramon, who had 4 outfits in the 7 scene show. He wore clothes from linear, suit, junk de luxe and baracuta. He was a really down to earth guy, but obviously we didn't have much time to chat as i had to sort his clothes out, prep, steam, hang etc etc

So we did the usual thing that you can imagine happens before these events, met our models, dressed them in their outfits, then a dress run-through, steam the clothes then went for dinner and finally the real thing. The models came back from hair and make - up and into their opening outfits.
Claudia Winkleman was presenting, she arrived, wondered around while we dressed, and guests came in to their complimentary champagne. (We may have had a cheeky glass).
And finally the show began, and before you knew it, it was over. Time flew by, outfits went on and off and everything was a success. There was no major problems or set backs, and everyone looked great. The only thing left to do was pack up......... and slyly get a goody bag as we left :).

For my first real experience in fashion and as a dresser, it was truly awesome. Everyone was really nice, no bitchiness like you would think, and our effort generally was greatly appreciated, hopefully i will work with them again soon.

Next blog is already in my head, so you will see it up soon.
Take Care

S/S 2010 ....... HURRY UP.

I am just bursting at the seams to shrug off my chunky knitwear, winter accessories and layer after layer. I am beginning the summer to just come on by quickly, i need to wear flip-flops, deck shoes, shorts and most importantly my SUNNIES. (The fashion piece that should be worn all year round)

So what is in-store for all you guys and gals in the teenies, what's on trend and what should you be buying?

Girls you are up first..... for you everything is getting nude, and shorter as we saw more flesh than any trend in the past decade, i think Miuccia Prada's chandelier dresses confirm that, they are a pure work of genius, and something you never think could be commercial. However i know the majority of you females reading this prefer high-street to high end. As touched upon skirts are getting shorter, revealing more thigh,(unfortunately the maxi dress won't be back this year :( ) as well heels getting smaller, kitten heels and even clogs are going to be bang on trend for the coming months......thank GOD i am not a girl, clogs? i think not.
Colour wise, nudes, ice creams, so far from last years eye popping and block colours. As well as this we see the usual white, always a key player for summer, so look out for your bleached washes. However for those of you who do want to add colour, try a check and make it subtle....... NO bold blocks.
Finally lady friends key pieces......party dresses, for day and night, jumpsuits (YAY) and loose trousers tapering to teh ankle in light weight soft fabrics.

Now that all sounds pretty fine to mine, are you looking forward to your new wardrobes??

Alreet Geezas your next.

Ok, one simple rule i think to start with.... tailoring is out, CASUAL is in. (For those who must do tailoring keep it soft.) For you non fashion following men, stop reading, that rule will see you through just fine, all others....... feel free to carry on.
A strong theme from the shows envisaged a travel theme, with roomy bags and sports shoes, creating a feel that comfort is key. Again similarly to the female trends men are also showing more flesh, with revealing vests and open tops. Also the feeling of an urban attire came across using neutral colours, greys, cream, white and black. Although you guys could turn to pastel shades if your yearn for some colour. Accessories wise plastic sunglasses are back, as well bags of all shapes and sizes and high top trainers.
However my research says big labels went for slim line trousers, but recent trend reports are showing skinny jeans are out for summer, and loose denim is in.....so if you need some new jeans i suggest either, carrot, relaxed, bootcut or even loose fit jeans, my personal pick would be carrot or relaxed as it tapers at the bottom still leaving a nice silhoutte.

Hope that helps you guys out.

Right two new purchases this week both from Asos.com.

So a L/S waffle top witha grandad neck and charcoal in colour. It has elasticated cuffs..... great for us men with long arms wooo hooo (also i am mad about the grandad neck atm, and you should be too)
Secondly a charcoal (again..... im an addict to the palette of monochrome) .... hooded vest with a scoop neck. The lower neck is great, and not choking like other vests, but although i have always been a hater of people wearing vests on their own, however this one looks good, and if i hit the gym before summer may just pull off the look in Torquay's finest beaches this summer HA.

Will be back soon with more loving for all you readers.

The 'Propa' Way to Socialise

As requested by some friends, a blog especially for them

The 'Propa' Way to Socialise ......

So i started uni in september, and the first term was slow, boring, unsociable, how the last 2 weeks of that term i finally found myself beginning to feel like i fitted in, i had a group of friends that accepted me, and wanted to know who i was. But then we all went our separate ways for christmas.

Now we have come back and the last 2 weeks has been some fun, and very sociable times, with lunches, coffee, social drinks and a very fun night out, which ended in struggling to get home..... stupid london night buses.

And last night i held my first real social event in my "lovely" lil flat, ( i was really surprised at how the reacted to my place, it really isn't that great ha) it was just the 3 of us, we had a take away and sipped rose wine...... this is the 'propa' way to socialise. OK, so some of you with more money may go to nice dinner and wine bars, but whats better than sitting in the comfort of your own home, with some great fines :)
After the success of the first night, although more troubles getting home haha bless them, i think i/we will hold more sociable events.

sorry its a short one but i have to leave for work.
Enjoy your day readers.

Best Dressed 2010

Hello again, time for round 2.......

so GQ has released their annual Best - Dressed list for 2010 in association with Allsaints Spitalfields. For those of you who want a hard copy you should be able to pick up the handout at any allsaints store, as well as vogue one for all you fashion following females.

A countdown of Britain's most stylish men reveals some surprising entries, as well as some very pleasing ones.

A surprising addition is the re-entry of ronnie corbett (someone you never expect to see if a fashion magazine when you pick one up) at 46, nevertheless as GQ puts it 'good things come in little packages.' HE stick to his clean crisp suits, which naturally never date. He's followed by Grace Jones as 42, Prince Charles at 36, Sir Elton at 14, i can see why this one may be considered stylish but still really? My final surprise at the magnificent No.4 is the very odd fantastic Mr Fox. However having not seen the film im not sure im in a good enough position to comment, but how does a animated fox become best dressed? Although he is a character who has been associated with fashion being part of Gaps windows in Oxford Street last season....... apparently tweed is a go-er.

Unfortunately for some of the men featured they have dropped a severe number of places from last years list. Christian Bale, this years No.40, has unfortunately dropped 26 places from 14. I personally think Batman has never been so stylish. Price Charles dropped an even bigger number of places, a HUGE 31, as well as Lucian Freud dropping 28, and Christopher Bailey 21. However i feel the harshest blow come to poor Mark Ronson, although im not a fan, i feel for him. Everyone knows last year he was THE best dressed, and this year he is a mere 30, something i don't think he will be happy with.

At Number 44 this year we have Ashley Cole, a new entry for best dressed....... but is this a surprise when he has britain's favourite female celebrity at his side. No doubt Cheryl has been dressing him so that he keeps up to her standard, ill be surprised if he can tie his owe tie to be honest. But you do have to admit, lately he is more of a trend setter than a fashion follower. I say well done to ashley for making it, but not so sure if he will be here next year.

Finally before i get to NO.1 some of my favourite entries. At 22 we see the CBBLB host, George Lamb, so ok i think his style is an acquired taste, but still elegant and sophisticated. You never see him without his blazer, or some tailored trousers. Tom Ford, teh man that saved Gucci, and gone on to start his own Brand at No.05, a fantastic result. He has a very clean and crisp style, and never gets it wrong, who wouldn't want to be seen with him? Personally i feel he is going up even further next year, a possible No.1?
Now this is gunna be no surprise but my favourite entry is ofcourse, David Beckham. My all time style icon, the man i love, what man doesn't love him? This year he has gained the chart, now at No.9, the Beckhams are without a doubt the most stylish couple going, and have been for a long time.

Right finally No.1, im sure many of you ladies will love it but personally i don't see it, nor am i a big fan, well no fan at all. So, it is everyone's favourite vampire Robert Pattinson, that is unless you like jacob. Pictured here in Allsaints he looks very cool, but im sure he didn't dress himself, as their was most definitely going to be a stylist at the shoot.

So their is my low down on GQ's best dressed list for this year, im sure many of you will disagree, but who cares? its my opinion.

Finally no new purchases or rare finds, however i find myself going in every Allsaints i see, and like what i find, maybe you guys should check it out if your not a fan yet.

Look forward to writing again :)

Losing my blog virginity

First thing is first, thank you to rmurphs and chrisdoffer for helping me out in my first adventure into the blogging world.

So im me, a 18 year old boy living in London for the first time, and commencing in uni life...... at the all so prestigious London College of Fashion, particularly fashion management. As well as that i work in Burton on oxford street and just follow the usual life of a london student.

Its just me and my flat mate in our cosy lil 2 bedroom, but its good, we talk...... on the stoop.

And im sure that whatever we talk about i may blog, if appropriate as well as fashion, life and anything else i do, like or just want to comment on.

So for my first topic is 'The Global Village'.......

Well what the hell is that is the question i have been asking myself, but after some research i think i have a mild grasp ..... thank you lcf lecturers for explaining clearly.... NOT.
However over the past 2 decades technology has greatly evolved and we 'have extended our central nervous system to a global embrace.' Its like an extension of the senses, just like this blog or email. We can see, hear (as well as others) things that happen on the other side of the world almost at the same rate as face to face conversation.

So the task, pretend you a leader of a fashion brand, how would you launch the A/W 2010 Collection, using the global village to inspire and create a great strategy, what would you do?

I promise this will get more intresting this is my first bash, and as more happens i'll comment .... as well as letting you know things i've recently tried, bought or loved.

For today i BOUGHT a Superdry O/H hoodie in burgundy with osaka gel print...... i love it, all though it been a round a gd few months so nothing for you lil babies to get too excited about.

Keep you posted
