British Soap Awards

Admittedly after moving to London i erased all soaps from my tv viewing, but after a recent call from a very good friend, she informed me of the latest from the British Soap Awards, and after seeing the pictures of the evening i feel compelled enough to blog it!

Back in the day i used to watch Hollyoaks religiously, and don't mind admitting that Sasha Valentine, played by Nathalie Emmanuel, was little crush of mine. Especially when she graced the screen in those Beyonce inspired gold hot pants and huge afro.......HOT! But at the recent soap awards i feel she took it to another level, wearing a gorgeous full length gown. She looked stunning with her radiant skin tone, the wind in her hair and displaying a stunningly curvy figure. Nathalie has come from a girl to a real woman while in Hollyoaks, she looked elegant and graceful, something rare for a soap star.

However she is not the only member of the Hollyoaks cast that deserves a mention. Bronagh Waugh, who plays the loud mouthed barmaid Cheryl, made a very big entrance. The actress wore a transparent shift dress, that luckily covered all the right places with black sequins, and no underwear underneath, a very brave move. Although i am not a massive fan on the dress, u have to respect her for being brave enough to flash the flesh.

Finally Loui Batley, who plays a model in Hollyoaks, 'Apparently' (can't see it myself). But her dress in my opinion is horrid, the feather skirt looks identical to the one available from Topshop last year, with some ridiculous customising that makes her look like a Xmas present.

The Dreaded Double D's!

Yes, i am talking about Double Denim, a trend that has hit us in recent months, one that is a bit like marmite, you either love it or you hate it.

As my previous blog shows a denim shirt that i recently purchased from All Saints i had attempted the DD look. A look that i like, but going to 'fashion school' you can only wonder what others are thinking. On the first day back at term i counted at least 8 people that were sporting the look. Does that make it trendy? Of course not, the combination is hard to get right with many conflicting views! One figure is saying get denim of similar colours, where others are saying do the opposite and wear contrasting denim. I am still not sure myself how to do it, and i don't believe there will ever be a definitive answer, its just a matter of preference. But with the celebrities sporting it including David Beckham and Channing Tatum, i think it's worth a try.

Regardless of how you do it there are a lot of wicked options out and about, including River Island, Burton, Topman, next and a very trendy option from Zara that was featured on this morning a few weeks back. That is just your high street options, and i'm sure there are many fantastic designer options for all those who want to flash the cash, including D&G who heavily featured it on their S/S 2010 collection! Which in hints at matching denim!

Yet again the friends that always feature in my blog have arrived again, and informed that double denim is dead! Just when i was beginning to enjoy it! Still i like it and will at least get some wears out of my All Saints shirt, and in summer i could always pair it with some cargo shorts!

Shopping Temptation

Being back in the city only 2 weeks, and it isn't long before you fall back in to your old routine, and along comes with it ... the bad habits, i.e. SHOPPING! Although some new ones are starting to!

In those two weeks i have been on oxford street about 5 times, due to uni and work, and westfield shopping centre at least 4, if not more. It's hard not to visit when it's only down the road! After all those shopping trips i had been really good and not bought a single thing, at least until i visited westfield the sunday just passed. With no work to go to i found myself wasting a day and it was gloriously sunny, so i got out the house for a spot of window shopping, visiting my usual stores, river island, H&M, Zara, Hollister as i was there and a few others. I went into the mens All Saints and, again found myself being drawn towards a denim shirt i had seen earlier in the week, and with a price point of £50 i thought it was a steal for a piece of All Saints. But i resisted!!

Anyway i got all the way home, was here for about 20 minutes before i had to leave again to buy the shirt!!

i was in shock at myself, i am beginning to think if i actually have some sort of a problem, a shopping addiction that should not be built into a guys genes regardless of what course he studies or what his hobbies and likes are! The thing is i didn't just buy the denim shirt, i ended up buying one from Hollister as well! spending nearly £100, ok, so some of you will be reading this and thinking that isn't very much, but it is to me! a student!

The next day i wore the shirt and was very happy with my purchase, after all the dreaded double denim is on trend at the moment! Who knows when i will have to hang that shirt in wardrobe and not be able to pull it back out till it hits the catwalks again. Meeting friends before uni i even got a compliment from a very fashionable friend, so that made me even more pleased! Actually two compliments, one from work, but then again they do work in Dorothy Perkins ha.

But today!! Another close friend, (well, was close ha) pointed out an apparently better one i could of bought from next! One was not amused, and now i have doubts haha, im sure these will be gone when i wear it again!

Today i resisted two more purchases from Zara, however it is playing on my mind now! Good Job Westfield is closed this time at night!

But From this day forward i am not buying clothes, unless essential! (HA im sure i could describe anything as essential), and i mean it so much tomorrow i am cutting my overdraft! Get it at the source i say!

So here is my Shirt, so you better like it and no hater comments ha

P.S sorry mum who i had rang between my two visits to westfield on sunday, and who, up to now, believed i was a good son and didnt spend my money on clothes!

Beautiful Juxtaposition!

Babies im back....... finally!!

After an almost 3 week holiday in the (sometimes) beautiful bay i have returned to the big city. Having been almost absent from my fashionista friends and the capital of the industry, and lost with no drapers to read i have been thinking long and hard about what fashionable topic i should blog on, when yesterday i thought of one!

Riding my usual 207 bus to shepherds bush tube station i saw something of mixed messages. So in london last weekend we had a beautiful weekend with glorious sunshine, so we shrugged off our scarves and coats, and finally i wore sunnies proudly! to embrace the sun! however the weather again has dampened down this week, but some people are convinced summer has hit. I have seen people wearing shorts and t-shirts, walking alongside those in scarfs and coats! Everyone is desperate for summer to come along, me just as much as anyone but why kid yourself? People must dress for the day that is ahead of them, clouds do not mean its ok to wear shorts.

I think my friends facebook status summed it up for me today, 'oh Sun, you are deceiving for it is NOT warm...'

Summer will be along soon my fellow readers so until then we must wait but enjoy what is around! :)

GaGa is pure Genius....

Yo Geeza's,
its been a little while so i thought i would get a quick one up why waiting for friends to arrive for some drinkies ...... so when you read this friends, come earlier next time!!!

So this week Lady Gaga released the video to her track Telephone Ft Beyonce! But this aint no ordinary music video, it could possibly be described as a very short film, kinda like when you read short stories ...... pointless, but fun. This video is pure genius, i love it! I know it was going to be good from the start when one of the prison guards (who have their bra's out for some reason) strip the Gaga down and reveal she doesn't have a penis! What a line to open with!

I love the way this video takes HUGE influence from the films Kill BIll, even featuring the actual Pussy Wagon! :) The style of dialogue, and using names such as 'Hunny B' is exactly like Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece! As well as using scenes like the american diner. The good thing about this video is that it does tell a story, all be it a very odd one, and nicely leads on from her 'paparazzi' video, as well suggesting their will be a follow on video from the 'to be continued' at the end.

The dancing in this video is also pretty wicked! The section near the start of the video when Gaga and some backing dancers dance down the corridor of the prison is pretty wicked, especially as they are all practically wearing nothing! It's not like lady Gaga to be revealing! The style of dancing here is one that isn't typical to her dance videos, and i think it shows she has great talent not just for singing, as well as the end dance sequence at the end with Beyonce in the American diner.

I guess i should comment on the outfits used as this is supposed to be a blog loosely based on fashion and the industry, and i guess it is kind of unusual i haven't blogged on the artist yet as she is so forward in her dress. My favourite costume on the whole video is the one where she goes to the yard of the prison with chains wrapped around her and those cigarette glasses! To me this looks really cool, but obviously not marketable! Lady Gaga has those signature looks that no one could pull off bar her, which is kind of why Beyonce sticks out like a sore thumb! Nevertheless she still looks soooooo HOT! But i do have to say before i finish is that i absolutely hate the scenes where she is dancing in front of the pussy wagon in that horrible leopard print catsuit that goes over her head and incorporates a drivers hat!

All in all this video is awesome! I can't wait for her next one .... nor anyone else's that may wanna have a bash at a longer piece!

Is it Fashionable to smile?? :/

The other day i was travelling home from work, and of course living in london this almost always involves taking the tube. It wasn't until this time that i realised how miserable everyone looks, and the same can be said for me. Travelling home late after work, on your own, knowing you have to cook tea and finish your uni work when you get back, why should i smile?

Normally on the tube 50-60% of people have headphones in, and those who don't are normally reading, and the few that are left are sleeping. So ok Sleeping excused, why can't we smile will reading? or more importantly why can't we smile when listening to our music? Surely music is supposed to bring happiness and joy to those who are listening, as long as you aren't listening to someone depressing. As everyone know it takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown, so again why shouldn't we! All it takes is one person, one person to smile, and like a yawn, smiles can be contagious. You could be the one to start that. :)

There could be a number of reasons why people choose not to smile, at home everyone is normally smiling, well sort of. Moving to London all you see is rushing people, with headphones in and blank expression. But before you know it you become one of them, you are sucked into that way of life without even wanting to be. No matter how early you leave for work or uni etc etc you still end up rushing, climbing the escalator instead of standing on the shitting right hand side! What ever happened to walking i don't know! London people i think are just lazy, well a hefty percentage of them. That is evident in the bus i have to catch that feels the need to stop every 100 metres!! If people just slowed down, and smiled every now and then would london be a better place to live? Who knows, but you still have to love our beautiful city with or without smiling faces, because this is all made up when you see your friends faces! At least someone is happy to see you!

Maybe the models of the catwalk could try a smile every now and then, are real people that expressionless? saying that are real people that tall and thin, i guess not.

Smiling should be fashionable!

And the Oscar goes to ......

Who gives a shit, lets just check out what the A - listers are wearing!

Ok so i need to start by saying for those who have read the previous blog on VB i apologise for getting it wrong! She had lied to me, or rather changed her mind im sure, and she didn't go for the gown that i claimed, but rather a different one of her creations.
She went for a floor length champagne A- symmetric gown, cinched in at the waist! It is one of the strengths of her collection but didn't really carry the wow factor you would expect from someone of her stature.

Carey Mulligan turned up in a very cute Prada dress. Being a petite lady i would of expected a short knee length number, but instead she opted for a longer dress, that was high at the front revealing some calf. I guess the Oscar springs longer length gowns to mind. The Black suited nicely to her skin tone, and her pixie haircut looked great with the larger earrings.

Another personal favourite of mine was Sandra Bullock, who also collected the award for best actress last night. She was in a stunning Marchesa Gown. It was a metallic, strapless, full length number with beautiful detailing on the Top. Accessorised with a small clutch and very simple bracelet she looks flawless.

Rather an Odd ball of a dress but one i find myself loving is offered up by Rachel McAdams. She was pictured wearing Elle Saab, with a weaved bodice and free flowing skirt, it looked truly elegant. The colour is so hard to describe its best you look, but the sheer unusualness draws me to it, it isn't your typical oscar dress.

As usual with the scars comes the worst dressed, a list no one wants to make it onto and for me their is two stand outs that i just hate......

The first being Maggie Gyllenhaal, i dunno what about it i hate, i just know i do. I guess the oriental style isn't really doing it for me, but im sure many of you will like it.

And finally i have my worst dress which comes from Zoe Saldana, i just hate it, looks like some weird purple truffle, with that disgusting colour blocking (that was on trend last year, not this) makes it look like a B&Q colour palette. If i am looking to decorate my bathroom lilac than i'll pull up this photo to hold against my wall. The only good thing about it is the embellishment detail at the top, but nevertheless it looks like she is wearing two dresses and the lilac one was just too short she had to stick something else on underneath! Despite it being Givenchy haute couture im just not warming to it.

As you can see jewellery was at the fore front of this years ceremony, but it was more about the understated fashion statement, about sheer elegance, and little flashing of the flesh!
